Top Ten Books That Would Be On My Syllabus If I Taught YA Fantasy 101 & Magic in YA 101

This is a Top Ten Tuesday post which originated at The Broke and the Bookish. For more topics/information about how to participate, please click here.

I’m by no way a teacher. I don’t have the patience to explain things and I’d probably end up losing my voice on the first day because of all the shouting I’d be doing.

BUT BUT BUT let’s say, hypothetically, I was a teacher.

I’d probably teach YA Fantasy 101 along with Magic in YA 101 with YA Fantasy 101 being a prerequisite for Magic in YA 101.

(you can totally fangirl in my classes. totally.)

YA Fantasy 101

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (because duh)

Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi (kids need to read more manga! There might be an aspiring artist among them. Who knows.)

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Night World by L.J. Smith

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

Supplementary Reader

Reboot by Amy Tintera

Magic in YA 101

Eragon by Christopher Paolini (I looooooove the magical system in these books)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling (do I need a reason??)

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (There is no “magic” here but the superpowers are so cool)

Born of Illusion by Teri Brown (see book review here)

Barajou No Kiss by Aya Shouoto (I’ll probably end up fighting with the female students over Kaede. He’s mine, bitches. MINE!)

isn’t he the most gorgeous thing everrrr??????

(also yes, I’ll stay dreaming about you forever my love)

Supplementary Reader

Jackaby by William Ritter

I TOTALLY IMMERSED MYSELF IN THIS TEACHER ACT. YOU ARE AN ENGINEER, JINAN. AN ENGINEER. REMEMBER THAT.

#ahem

What do you think of the books I chose?
